Offering Basic and Advanced Ice Navigation in Polar Waters under the Liberian Flag

We are proud to announce that Nautilus Pacific Maritime Training Center Inc. has been re-approved as a Liberian-Approved Training Center, reinforcing our unwavering commitment to delivering globally recognized maritime training that meets the highest standards of safety, competence, and regulatory compliance.

This milestone reflects our dedication to continuous improvement and alignment with international maritime requirements and best practices. The approval, granted by the Liberian Registry (LISCR)—one of the world’s largest ship registry known for its commitment to safety, innovation, and quality assurance—signifies that our programs and training systems remain fully compliant with Liberia’s national and international maritime education and training regulations, as stipulated under the STCW Convention.

Expanded Course Offerings: Ice Navigation in Polar Waters – Basic and Advanced

As part of this status, we are also proud to re-introduce a highly specialized and increasingly vital course suite: Ice Navigation in Polar Waters, both Basic and Advanced, officially recognized and approved under the Liberian flag. These programs are aligned with the IMO Polar Code and fulfill the training requirements outlined in STCW A-V/4.

Basic Ice Navigation in Polar Waters

Designed for deck officers and masters with no prior experience navigating polar waters, this course focuses on the fundamental knowledge required to operate safely in ice-covered environments. Participants will gain insights into:

  • The unique challenges of polar navigation
  • Ice detection and charting
  • Cold-weather ship handling
  • Operational limitations of vessel systems in extreme conditions
  • Risk mitigation and contingency planning

Advanced Ice Navigation in Polar Waters

The advanced course is tailored for experienced navigators who have already acquired basic ice navigation knowledge and seek to build deeper competencies for leadership and decision-making in polar voyages. The course explores:

  • Advanced voyage planning for polar routes
  • Managing emergency situations in polar regions
  • Ice breaker coordination
  • Communication protocols and search and rescue (SAR) preparedness
  • Compliance with environmental protection guidelines under the Polar Code

These courses are delivered by experienced maritime professionals with hands-on knowledge of polar navigation, complemented by simulation-based exercises that mirror actual ice conditions and onboard decision-making challenges.
